Baum then promised his readers to continue “the Oz Books… as long as I am able to write them…” He did continue, completing Glinda before he died on May 6, 1919. The Magic of Oz was published one month after his death, and Glinda of Oz was issued the following year. ... Glinda of Oz has been noted for its naturalism in contrast to the earlier Oz books. In it, Dorothy and Ozma set out on their own without the aid of manufactured, ambulating folk and magical animals. Perhaps tied to this naturalism, the settings in Glinda are a marked transition from fantasy to that of science-fiction: submersible cities, submarine boats, and steel compounds that can be fashioned into a mobilized city infrastructure. In all of this, Baum seems to be leaving the childlike fairy-story elements of talking animals and fantastic companions behind. Instead, the protagonists rely on scientific advancement, ingenuity, and ultimately friendship and the wisdom of elders to see them through...."

Wonderful story and beautiful illustrations

What a wonderful book!!! I love the illustrations in the story. Pretty much everyone has seen or read the Wizard of Oz, well they should read the series in order. L Frank Baum is an excellent writer! The books are not just for kids, they are for all ages!!
