Professor Sean A.P. Finn was born in Indianapolis, Indiana. He earned a doctorate in Celtic Linguistics from the University of Kansas, and presently lives in Toronto with his wife, Ellen, and their cat, Balor.

Irish Magic!

The poetry is enchanting. The story is incredible. The minute I finished reading it, I jumped right up to see if Part Two had been written yet. After following long patriarchal genealogical lines on the computer I was elated to read about the Irish matriarchal
creation myth. Couldn't put it down. Loved it! Thanks Mr. Finn.

Brilliant!

"The Dun Book of Magh Meall" is simply one of the greatest works ever put together. Absolutely impossible to put down, this work is the ultimate in cerebral poetry, and it is a fascinating synthesis of epic style poetry and lyric poetry. Possessing the density of information eqivalent to Boethius' "The Consolation of Philosophy" and Voltaire's "Candide," this is a work that requires a tremendous amount of attention to get the most out of it, while, at the same time, possessing that enthralling nature that has been so often associated with the ancient world.
The text pushes the boundary of what we understand to be fiction and non-fiction, a boundary that has, heretofore, gone unchallenged until now. "The Dun Book" stands as a challenge to the seemingly arbitrarily instantiated dichotomy between the "real" and the fantastic, the intuited and the dream. Between the erudition and ancient perspective within the text, the reader is left with the question: "non-fiction or fantasy?"...if only it were that simple!
In this collection of translated works, one will find a scholarly assessment of many accounts of battle, the Celtic gods, and an extraordinary array of perspectives, philosophical and sociological. For anyone, like me, with an interest in ancient languages, this book takes stock of some interesting aspects linguistic heritage. I found it thoroughly enjoyable.
I cannot give a higher recommendation for a book than this, as it was, upon first reading, instantly one of my top ten favorite books. "Embarking upon a New Mystery" is one of the two portions of text that compel anyone to read, before passing on this book. The other portion that I enjoyed was "The War of the Clans," because of the strong Celtic feel it had to it.
The lovers of philosophy, poetry, and history/fiction will not be dissatisfied! Though a challenging read, the payoff is beyond measure.

The Dun Book of Magh Meall

Fans of "The Changeling Trilogy" will be sure to welcome this first volume of the prequel. Written in a combination of prose and poetry, it is both a very enjoyable and a very "tricky" book which is concerned with the very beginning of the universe and the rise of the beings who were to become the gods of the ancient Celts = the "actual" fairies of today's Celtic areas. Apart from the copyright, there's no mention of Dennis Sweet anywhere in the book, which purports to be a translation-cum-commentary on an ancient manuscript discovered by Professor Sean Finn, known to readers of the trilogy as one of Sweet's principal characters. Finn's/Sweet's many learned annotations on the translation are amusing: they provide at once a wonderful parody and an ostensibly actual example of academic scholarship.
